Revs Spoil Thurman’s Home Return in 4-1 Loss

WALDORF, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (31-27, 72-49) struggled offensively in a 4-1 loss to the York Revolution (39-19, 74-47) on Tuesday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Blue Crabs took an early lead, but could not score again as York took the lead in the fifth inning. Despite a losing effort, Andrew Thurman provided a quality start for the Crabs.

The Blue Crabs got on the board first in the bottom of the second inning. Jackson Loftin continued his remarkable play with a solo home run on the first pitch of the inning from York starting pitcher Nick Mikolajchak, his 11th homer of the season, to put Southern Maryland in front 1-0.

York got their offense going in the top of the fifth inning. A single by Andrew Ramirez and double by Mike Rosario put two runners in scoring position with no outs. A fielding error by Blue Crabs shortstop Brody Fahr brought both runners home to put the Revolution on top 2-1.

Thurman was excellent in his return to Waldorf after starting the season with the San Diego organization, recording a quality start. Over six innings, he allowed two runs, one earned, on six hits and two walks. He picked up a pair of strikeouts.

York found some insurance in the top of the eighth inning. Against Blue Crabs relief pitcher Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa, Jackson Ross hit a two-run home run to left field to extend the Revs lead to 4-1.

The Blue Crabs found no answer for the York pitching staff after taking the early lead. Mikolajchak finished five solid innings to set up the bullpen. York relief pitchers combined to hold the Blue Crabs scoreless through the game’s final four innings and Cam Robinson recorded the save to finish York’s 4-1 victory.

The Blue Crabs continue their three-game series against the York Revolution on Wednesday, September 9. First pitch is at 6:35 pm. Wednesdays at Regency Furniture Stadium are Woof Wednesdays.
