Kahaloa Named ALPB Pitcher of the Week

Six shutout innings earns back-to-back awards for Blue Crabs

WALDORF, MD – Blue Crabs starting pitcher Ian Kahaloa was named Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for the week of August 18-23. The Blue Crabs have won consecutive Pitcher of the Week awards after Connor Overton won the honor the previous week.

Kahaloa is the third Southern Maryland pitcher and the fourth player to earn a weekly award this season, joining the previously mentioned Overton, relief pitcher Isaac Fix, and outfielder Danny Bautista Jr.

Kahaloa turned in one of his finest starts of the season on Saturday, August 22 at Hagerstown. He finished six scoreless innings, allowing just three hits and two walks. He picked up seven strikeouts, bringing his season total to 97. He was eventually credited with his ninth win of the season after the Blue Crabs bested the Flying Boxcars 5-3.

During the start, Kahaloa passed Brian Grening for fourth place on the franchise innings pitched list with 460.0 innings completed with Southern Maryland.

Through 21 starts this year, Kahaloa sports a 9-7 record with a 4.50 ERA. His ERA ranks third in the Atlantic League while he leads the circuit with 1.93 walks allowed per nine innings and a 4.04 strikeout-to-walk ratio, trailing only teammate Ian Kahaloa. He also places second among qualified pitchers with a 1.19 WHIP, the best mark among active pitchers.

Kahaloa is playing in his eighth professional season and his fourth with the Blue Crabs. A former 2015 fifth-round draft selection of the Cincinnati Reds, Kahaloa has thrived as a top-level pitcher on the independent and foreign baseball scene since 2019. He previously led the Atlantic League with 138 strikeouts in 2024. A native of Ewa Beach, HI, Kahaloa was an amateur standout at Campbell High School.

The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs have been proud members of the Atlantic League since 2008, the fourth-longest tenured team in the league.
