Crabs Kept Quiet in 8-1 Loss to Stormers

Southern Maryland only get two hits as Lancaster’s Bremer tosses gem

WALDORF, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (14-12, 55-34) fell 8-1 to the Lancaster Stormers (10-16, 45-44) on Saturday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Crabs only collected two hits as Lancaster starting pitcher Noah Bremer threw six spectacular innings.

After a scoreless first inning, Lancaster broke the ice in the top of the second inning. With two outs in the frame, Nathan Martorella reached on a single and scored on an RBI double by Joseph Carpenter. Later in the inning, Scott Kelly hit a two-run double to right field. A pair of errors held the Stormers score another run and the half-inning ended with Lancaster ahead 4-0.

Mercedes struck again in the fourth inning. He parked an RBI single into right field to extend the Stormers’ lead to 5-0.

Blue Crabs starting pitcher Ian Kahaloa was only able to complete four innings. He allowed five runs, four earned, on seven hits, no walks, a hit batter, and four strikeouts.

Mercedes continued to torment the Crabs in the sixth inning with a two-run home run to stretch Lancaster’s lead to 7-0. It was Mercedes’ fourth home run of the season, all against Southern Maryland.

The Blue Crabs were silenced at the plate by Lancaster’s Bremer as he tossed six scoreless innings. He only surrendered one hit and two walks while striking out seven batters.

Lancaster got one more run on an error in the top of the seventh inning before Southern Maryland got their first run of the game on an Ethan Wilson sacrifice fly to bring the score to 8-1 Stormers. Ethan Firoved and Jace Taylor finished the game for Lancaster in a bounce-back performance for the bullpen.

The Blue Crabs finish their six-game series against the Lancaster Stormers on Sunday, August 1 at Regency Furniture Stadium. First pitch is at 1:05 pm.
