Crabs Fall 10-2 to Stormers on Thursday

Stormers slug four home runs, Crabs leave 10 on base

WALDORF, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (13-11, 54-33) fell to the Lancaster Stormers (44-43, 9-15) by the final score of 10-2 on Thursday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. The Stormers hit four home runs against the Blue Crabs.

Both teams were retired in order in the first inning until Lancaster got on the board in the top of the second inning. Carlos Amaya delivered an RBI single before Adam Hackenberg scored on a wild pitch by Blue Crabs starting pitcher Connor Overton to give the Stormers a 2-0 advantage.

Lancaster added another run in the third inning. Corey Rosier reached on a double and he scored on an RBI double by Nick Lucky to extend Lancaster’s lead to 3-0.

Overton was limited to four innings in his return from the injured list. He allowed three runs on five hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

Joe Testa made his Blue Crabs debut in relief in the top of the fifth inning, but was greeted rudely by Tristin English with a solo home run. The Blue Crabs backed him up with a Brody Fahr RBI double to bring Lancaster’s lead to 4-1 after five innings.

The Stormers then pulled away in the sixth inning. A throwing error by Jackson Loftin extended the inning with two runners on, then Melvin Mercedes hit a three-run home run to left field to stretch Lancaster’s lead to 7-1.

Lancaster continued to pour it on with a home run in four straight innings. Adam Hackenberg hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning, his first Atlantic League homer and Dean Mihos came off the bench in the eighth inning to launch a solo home run, his first professional blast. Ethan Wilson got one of his own in the bottom of the eighth inning with a solo home run, his 10th homer of the year, to take the score to 10-2 Stormers after eight innings.

Lancaster relief pitcher Ronnie Voacolo retired the Crabs in order in the ninth inning to finish the win for the Stormers.

The Blue Crabs continue their six-game series against the Lancaster Stormers on Friday, July 31 at Regency Furniture Stadium. First pitch is at 6:35 pm.
