Crabs Drop Home Finale to York 9-4

WALDORF, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (32-28, 73-50) lost 9-4 to the York Revolution (40-20, 75-48) in the regular season finale at Regency Furniture Stadium on Thursday night. York tallied all nine of their runs on 14 hits through the game’s first six innings.

York opened the scoring in the top of the second inning. Tomo Otosaka and Nick Dunn hit back-to-back RBI singles to give the Revolution a 2-0 lead.

The Blue Crabs leveled the game in the bottom of the third inning. Ezequiel Pagan hit an RBI single before he forced York into a throwing error while in a rundown to allow Taylor Darden to score to tie the game at 2-2.

The Revs then scored seven unanswered runs over the next three innings to take control of the game. Dunn launched a two-run home run to right field in the fourth inning, the biggest swing of the game for York. Andrew Ramirez capped the offensive push with a two-run double in the sixth inning to put York ahead 9-2.

Blue Crabs starting pitcher Ian Kahaloa was tagged for six runs over 4.2 innings. The Revolution recorded 12 hits against him, a season-high against him. Kahaloa was denied a third 10-win season, finishing the year with nine victories.

The Blue Crabs bullpen settled things down later in the game. Anthony Hoopii-Tuionetoa, Ethan Hammerberg, J.P. Massey, and Endrys Briceno combined to throw 3.2 scoreless innings.

The Crabs offense could not get anything going to respond to York’s lead. Revs starting pitcher Julian Costa only allowed one earned run over six innings, his second quality start in as many outings against Southern Maryland. Jordan Geber followed with two scoreless innings out of the bullpen. The Crabs did score two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning on a Ryan McCarthy two-run single, but Ryan Shreve closed up shop for a 9-4 York win.

The Blue Crabs travel to New York to finish the regular season by facing the Long Island Ducks for a three-game series, starting on Friday, September 11. First pitch is at 6:35 pm.
