Blue Crabs Split Doubleheader with Legends

Crabs post shutout in Game One, Legends roll in Game Two


WALDORF, MD – The Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (19-18, 60-40) split a doubleheader with the Lexington Legends (21-17, 47-54) on Saturday night at Regency Furniture Stadium. Connor Overton and Jordan Carr combined for a 5-0 shutout win for the Blue Crabs in Game One. A monster game from P.J. Hilson and five scoreless innings from Jimmy Loper set the tone in a 15-1 win for Lexington in Game Two. 


Game One

The Blue Crabs got their offense going in the bottom of the second inning thanks to a pair of infield singles. Jackson Loftin started the inning with a base hit and Stephen Paolini brought him in with an RBI swinging bunt single to put Southern Maryland in front 1-0.


Southern Maryland padded their lead in the third inning. Phillip Sikes delivered another RBI infield single before Ethan Wilson drove an RBI double off the right field wall to extend the Blue Crabs’ lead to 3-0.


Overton was dominant in his second start of the week. Over five scoreless innings, he only allowed two hits and a hit batter. He racked up four strikeouts, including back-to-back looking strikeouts to end his outing.


The Crabs continued to pull ahead in the fifth inning. Sikes took Lexington starting pitcher Nic Laio deep for a 410-foot solo home run to left field, his team-leading 16th home run of the season. Paolini further contributed with an RBI double to stretch Southern Maryland’s advantage to 5-0.


Carr threw two scoreless innings for Southern Maryland to finish a 5-0 Blue Crabs win in the first game of the doubleheader. It was the second shutout of the season for the Blue Crabs and their first since blanking Staten Island on April 26.


Game Two

After a scoreless first inning, Hilson manufactured a run for Lexington in the top of the second inning. He reached on a double before he stole third base. Jackson Feltner brought him home with an RBI fielder’s choice to give the Legends a 1-0 lead.


Hilson struck again in the third inning. Curtis Terry started the scoring in the frame with an RBI single. Hilson outshined him with a 432-foot two-run home run to left field to bring Lexington’s lead to 4-0.


Both starting pitchers finished five innings with Lexington’s Loper outdueling Southern Maryland’s Ian Kahaloa. Loper tossed five shutout innings with three strikeouts. Kahaloa yielded four runs on six hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

The Legends broke the game open with an eight-run top of the sixth inning. Hilson led off the inning with his second home run of the game to start a stretch of 12 consecutive batters reaching base safely. The Blue Crabs got one run back on a solo home run by Jackson Loftin, his sixth home run of the season, but the Legends still cruised to a 12-1 lead.


Three more runs crossed the plate for Lexington in the top of the seventh inning. Brett Barfield then tossed a scoreless bottom of the inning to put the finishing touches on a 15-1 win for the Legends.


The Blue Crabs hit the road to face the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars for a six-game series to finish the 2026 version of the Black-Eyed Brawl, starting on Tuesday, August 18. First pitch is at 6:03 pm.
